Zanu-PF spokesperson Cde Simon Khaya Moyo has dismissed a Daily News editorial published yesterday headlined: “Khaya Moyo sings for his supper” after he corrected a misleading story published by the same paper alleging there was a rift in Zanu-PF.Cde Khaya Moyo said the editorial was “offside” and urged the publication to uphold professionalism and avoid misleading people.
“Today’s (yesterday) editorial in the Daily News is not only scathingly sarcastic, but amusing and indeed an own goal. It has failed dismally to separate the woods from the trees,” he said.
“All I said in my press statement of 27 April 2015 were facts correcting the misleading story by the Daily News titled ‘Grace dumps gang of four’. Instead, the editorial has avoided all issues I raised and has gone into my persona in an effort to silence me as Zanu-PF spokesperson and this will not work.”
The Daily News editorial alleged that Cde Moyo was under pressure from Zanu-PF and only wanted to impress other party officials to survive in the party.
“I have held several positions in both former PF Zapu and the united Zanu-PF for over 40 years and been in government since 1980 in various capacities,” said Cde Khaya Moyo.
“It is indeed an honour for me to be a spokesperson of such a massive party as well as Minister of Economic Planning and Investment Promotion, perhaps my book ‘Service To My Country’ will clarify issues.
“I don’t need to be a ‘weevil’ or ‘gamatox’ for in Zanu-PF we have seasoned cadres and a massive membership who clearly can separate issues from tissues. We have well known slogans and the Politburo made a ruling that we must stick to these.”
Cde Khaya Moyo said Zanu-PF was forever in unity and no one would succeed in dividing it.
“Zanu-PF is a well structured party with clear principles and programmes and we have one centre power,” he said. “Our iconic leader President Robert Mugabe remains and has always been that centre even after the Unity Accord of 22 December 1987.
“This position was reinstated by the late Dr Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo to all of us before he departed this world. We have maintained that position and no one will succeed in dividing Zanu-PF party by allocating us strange labels.”
The Daily News has been in overdrive, writing critical stories about Zanu-PF without verifying the facts and often relying on rumours on social media which it peddles as news.
