Tonight Star FM staff, listeners and music fans in general go partying at the radio station’s big second anniversary celebration to be held at Rajiv Gandhi Hall at Harare Exhibition Park.
Veteran United Kindom-based DJ Peter Johns is expected to grace the ‘birthday party’ that will also feature DJs Otis “The Flow” Fraiser, Naida, Ash Stylez and Godfatha Templeman.
The show will also have top class performances in the form of hip-hop group MMT, Sniper Storm, Stunner, Soul Jah Love and Bulawayo songstress Langa.
Star FM marked two years of broadcasting on Wednesday.
Since Wednesday, the presenters have been playing various clips from their early days, reflecting on how much things have improved.
Star FM programmes manager Comfort Mbofana said the clips were getting positive responses from listeners.
“This is something we are doing as we reflect on our growth from the time we started broadcasting on June 25 2012.
“It is really amazing how much our presenters have grown and one interesting clip was that of KGV.
“She sounded like a little girl in her early days, a different take from her professional and mature voice,” he said
The station has also been broadcasting congratulatory messages from different stakeholders as the countdown to the grand celebrations began.
“We made history by changing the way of radio broadcasting in this country.
“We changed the game and even those that came after us have not surpassed the standards that we laid out. This year we are saying ‘we are the game’ because we are on top and have no competition,” said Mbofana.
His sentiments were echoed by Star FM general manager, Admire Taderera, who applauded his team for playing an active role in the growth.
“We feel very excited about turning two.
“The road has been bumpy for us but we face the future with enthusiasm.
“We came against a background of competitors who had been serving for a very long time but because we are young and fresh we have managed to accomplish a lot,” he said.
Taderera added that the station boasted of having almost 80 percent of the front line staff that were young rookies that were maturing by the day.
