A suspected armed robber who was involved in a high-speed chase by police detectives in Kuwadzana Extension on Monday before they shot his female accomplice, is an ex-convict released on Presidential amnesty in February this year, the court heard today.
Godwin Muchemwa (27) today appeared in court before Harare Provincial magistrate, Mr Douglas Chikwekwe, charged with robbery.
He is jointly charged with Natsai Hwata (22) who was shot in the left thigh while their accomplices, Elvis Kandemwa and two others only identified as Dennis and Offias, are on the run.
Muchemwa has a similar pending case before the same courts.
Mr Chikwekwe remanded the duo in custody to Monday next week for bail application.
Appearing for the State, Miss Sharon Mashavira, alleges that the gang used a Mazda Demio as their getaway car.
It is alleged that on Monday this week, Muchemwa was driving the Mazda Demio with his accomplices on board when they followed the complainant along new Borrowdale Road until she parked her Mercedes Benz.
As she entered into a building, the gang disembarked from their vehicle and went to the complainant’s car.
They allegedly smashed the windscreen and stole two mobile phones and other valuables.
According to the State, the gang is linked to series of robberies in and around Harare.
Upon their arrest, the pair was found in possession of stolen goods which included cellphones, laptops and clothes.
