Rustenburg – ANC and EFF supporters faced off at polling stations in Lethabong, with both parties predicting victory in the area on Wednesday. Voters lined up in long queues at polling stations in Lethabong north of Rustenburg on Wednesday.

About 500m from the Barelwanedi station in Lethabong, the ANC and the Economic Freedom Fighters made last-minute attempts to persuade people to vote for their respective parties.

The ANC volunteers, dressed in yellow party T-shirts, erected a tent where they spoke to voters heading for the polling station.

EFF supporters in their signature red berets and T-shirts, waved party flags as they did the same a street away from the ANC.

The two parties were the main ones contesting the election in Lethabong.

Both promised to emerge victorious when voting closed at 21:00.

“We are going to bury them,” said ANC supporter Enock Kgari.

“Amandla,” he shouted when a minibus taxi with ANC posters pasted onto it passed.

EFF supporter Reuben Dingalo also believed his party would win.

“In the local election we beat them as independents. What stops us from surprising them again?” he said.

There were eight polling stations in Lethabong.

Despite the fierce rivalry between EFF and ANC, the situation in the area remained calm.-News24
